This morning I had my stitches removed. As I walked up the familiar steps to the dentist’s room I counted the times we’ve climbed those stairs.
Trip 1: Consultation
Trip 2: Root canal 1st seating
Trip 3: Root canal 2nd seating
Trip 4: Wisdom tooth surgery
Trip 5: Post surgery examination
Trip 6: Removal of stitches
All within the span a month.

Stunned, she stops midway.
Her eyes avoiding mine. Her lips pout. Eventually the lips tremble.
